About

When I Grow Up I Want To Be, Inc. (WIGUIWTB) has been a registered 501c3 organization since 2004.

Founded by sculptor and professor of fine art Erik Blome (www.erikblome.com) and garden designer Charlotte Blome (www.charlotteblomegardens.com), WIGIWTB conducts art workshops for underprivileged children and young adults primarily in Ethiopia (East Africa) on average once a year. We also have done workshops in the United States, Uganda, Egypt, and Mexico. We have had volunteers from Ethiopia, Mexico, Canada, Egypt, and the US. We have an advisory board that changes annually.

In addition to many generous donations from individuals, art supply retailers including Dick Blick Art Materials, Nasco, and Golden Paints have given thousands of dollars worth of paints, canvas, crayons ink and more, enabling WIGUIWTB to provide quality materials that are difficult to find in most of the places we offer our workshops.

WIGUIWTB is a 100% volunteer organization. All monetary donations go directly towards funding supplies, shipping, workshops, in-country transportation, exhibits, and scholarships.

The goals of WIGUIWTB are threefold. WIGUIWTB:
  • provides underprivileged children, primarily in Ethiopia, access to high-quality art experiences.
  • has exhibits of art produced in the workshops accompanied by photographs to highlight the talent and potential of the children and young adults with whom we work.
  • supports exemplary young artists in furthering their higher education with educational scholarships.
